The 11 Systems of the Body:

Endocrine System: Secretes hormones, regulates body’s response to stress. Blood delivers hormones to all cells. Major structures: Pituitary gland, adrenal gland, thyroid gland, liver and kidneys. Diseases: glucagonoma and graves disease (thyroid is over active)

Nervous System: detects stimuli in body, analyzes and stores information, responds to your choices. Diseases: multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s, epilepsy. Major structures: brain, spinal cord and sensory organs.

Urinary System: body takes nutrients from food and eliminates the rest as waste. Major structures: kidney, ureter, sphinder, bladder and urethra. Diseases: Urinary tract infection, cystitis (bruising of the bladder)

Respiratory System: Gas exchange regulates blood Ph. Major Organs: pharynx and larynx, trachea, lungs, bronchi, bronchioli. Diseases: Whopping cough, and COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) (lungs are irritated)

Integumentary System: excretes waste, protection from external environment, regulates your temperature. Major structures: dermis, epidermis, sweat glands, hair shaft, melanin and Keratin Diseases: skin cancer and acne

Cardiovascular System: Transports substances to and from the body cells, and pumps blood throughout the body. Major structures: heart, lungs, blood, and blood vessels. Diseases: coronary artery disease (plaque buildup in arteries) heart valve disease (the heart valve doesn’t open r close tightly)

Digestive System: Turns food into energy that you need to survive and stores waste for removal from the body. Major structures: mouth, esophagus, stomach, small intestine, pancreas, liver, colon, and large intestine. Diseases: Appendicitis and crones disease. Skeletal System: Support, protection, assistance with movement, mineral homeostasis, produces red blood cells, attachment for muscles. Major structures: skull, patella, and femur. Diseases: scoliosis, osteoperosis (depletion of calcium) and arthritis (damages your joints). Image: http://danceguadagno.wikispaces.com/file/view/Skeletal_System.gif/241145923/Skeletal_System.gif

Muscular System: Movement, reaction to stimuli, protects organs, produces body movement, pumps blood to the body and digests food. Major structures: cardiac muscle and skeletal muscles. Diseases: fibromyalgia (pains in your muscles, joints and tendons) and ALS (aka Lou Gehrig’s disease) attacks your motor neurons and causes weakness in your arms and legs. Reproductive System: Produces offspring. Major Structures: ovaries and testes. Diseases: ovarian and testicular cancer.

Lymphatic System: Removes and destroys waste debris dead blood cells, pathogens, toxins and cancer cells. It also absorbs fats and fat-soluble vitamins and removes excess fluid. Major Structures: spleen, thymus gland, lymph nodes and lymph vessels. Diseases: Lymphadenopathy (swelling of lymph nodes).
